Call for Choreographers

Due March 31, 2021

Choreographing for ADT offers a unique experience to create new work, mentor youth artists, and work closely with a composer with full support from an administrative and volunteer team.

Alberta Dance Theatre is looking for passionate, creative choreographers who are interested in working with our ADT company dancers to create work for our 2021 production.
Choreographers work with the ADT company members in a collaborative fashion by encouraging movement and concept offerings, facilitating creative discussion, providing leadership,  and guiding the overall direction for the created work according to the provided production theme. Choreographers will assist in implementing professional rehearsal etiquette and ensuring every dancer is seen, heard and and involved in the artistic process.
To apply, please send the following to jessalyn@albertadancetheatre.com
  • CV highlighting your pre-professional/professional choreographic experience and your work with youth dancers
  • Statement of why you would like to work with Alberta Dance Theatre and your personal choreographic or movement style
  • One or two video links of your choreography (youth or adult)
The Process

Each spring, Alberta Dance Theatre holds open call placement auditions inviting dancers from around the city of Calgary to join the company. ADT welcomes dancers of all experience levels.
ADT rehearsals generally start the second week of September and run Sundays 10:30am – 4pm with limited additional Saturday rehearsals 4:00-6:00pm.
Choreographers are not expected but are welcome to attend dress rehearsals. Professional artists part of our season's Creative Team will receive 2 complimentary tickets to our live performances.

At some point during our 11 to 12 week process, ADT youth artists participate in our annual Weekend Intensive. The Weekend Intensive is an out-of-town weekend away with the company where youth artists create and dance in an inspiring environment. The Weekend Intensive usually occurs Friday through Sunday. Artists may be invited to attend and will be provided sleeping accommodations and meals.
Alberta Dance Theatre is always looking for professional artists in all disciplines to present workshops, mentor youth artists, create material for our annual production, or partner with in new capacities we haven't yet thought of! Please reach out if you are interested in joining us!
