Call for Stage Manager

Alberta Dance Theatre is looking for a Stage Manager to join our Creative Team for November 2026. In addition to tracking cues, calling the show, and pre show stage prep, the Stage Manager will be invited to share their professional experience with our Youth Artists and help them understand how to work in a professional theatre setting.

We are looking for someone who is organized, compassionate and patient. The ideal candidate has dance experience, or has worked with dancers previously, and has experience and interest in working with youth.

If you are a dancer who has no previous Stage Management experience but a deep interest in learning, please reach out! ADT is invested in sharing our knowledge and mentorship.

Contract Position:

$1700

Time Commitment:

Saturdays 4:00pm - 7:00pm, November 7 - 21, 2026

Show Week, November 22 - 28, 2026

Rehearsals and performances are held at:
DJD Dance Centre

111 12 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2G 1A1

Responsibilities:

Mentor our great dancers
Learn the show during our Saturday rehearsals
Connect with the Backstage Coordinator, Lighting Designer, Composer, and Co-Artistic Directors as needed to prepare for Show Week
Attend all rehearsals and performances in the theatre to track cues, various show and dancer needs, and call the show.

The Process

Each spring, Alberta Dance Theatre holds open call placement auditions inviting dancers from around the city of Calgary to join the company. ADT welcomes dancers of all experience levels.

ADT rehearsals generally start the second week of September and run Sundays 10:30am – 4pm with limited additional Saturday rehearsals 3:00-6:00pm in November. There are no rehearsals over the Thanksgiving Weekend and one weekend in October while the Youth Artists are at their sleep away Weekend Intensive.

Choreographers are not expected but are welcome to attend dress rehearsals. The ADT Backstage Manager, volunteers, lighting designer and Co-Artistic Director's spend the the first few days of show week setting the theatre up for dancer's and audience. Dress rehearsals usually start two nights before opening.

Professional artists and staff part of our season's creative team will receive two complimentary tickets to our live performances.

All Creative Team members, staff and volunteers are welcome to attend the Red Carpet Gala and have their very own moment on the Red Carpet alongside the ADT Youth Artists.

Alberta Dance Theatre is always looking for professional and emerging artists in all disciplines to present workshops, mentor youth artists, or partner with in new capacities we haven't yet thought of!
